England coach Roy Hodgson hopes Wayne Rooney can settle his issues with Manchester United.

Hodgson believes Rooney enjoyed England's end-of-season friendlies, especially the trip to Brazil where he scored a brilliant goal in a 2-2 draw in the Maracana.

He said: "Rooney fit and wanting to play like he was against Brazil, showing his work-rate and technical ability, which was every bit as good as anyone out there.

"As far as I am concerned he has never let me down.

"My faith in Wayne Rooney has been very strong from the very beginning and it has never wavered."
