England coach Roy Hodgson has hinted West Ham United midfielder Stewart Downing will see action against Scotland tonight.
Tuesday's Celtic Park fixture will give the manager a chance to run the rule over as many as 17 players, with Downing set to be among them.
"You have six substitutes and that is a great advantage for a coach," said Hodgson, when asked about his squad options for the Scotland match. "Stewart Downing injured his knee slightly in a training accident on Thursday. We thought, and he thought, he was going to be OK on Saturday but when he started the warm-up he still felt it.
"I believe he'll be available against Scotland and that's good news because I would like to see him at some stage during the game."
