Hodgson feels England got the win they deserved

Roy Hodgson believes England deserved their 1-0 victory over Norway on Wednesday night.

The Three Lions survived a scare early in the second half when Joe Hart was forced into a smart save from Joshua King but picked up their game during the second lot of 45 minutes to edge the Norwegians at Wembley.

Hodgson made some changes just after the hour-mark and it proved to be the difference as it helped quicken the English attack which led to Raheem Sterling being felled in the area in the 68th minute, allowing new captain Wayne Rooney to convert from the penalty spot.

After the match, Hodgson told reporters that the Three Lions came out deserved victors ahead of Monday's opening Euro2016 qualifier against Switzerland in Basel.

"From the injection of pace of Danny (Welbck), Fabian (Delph) and James (Milner), and a slight change in the system, we got back on top again and started to create chances," said Hodgson.

"In the end I thought we were good value for our victory.

"The good thing with the players we have at the moment, and there were three out there making debuts today, is that many are playing early matches in their international career and it's good that we have these options.

"We definitely changed the way we were playing in terms of system with about 20-25 minutes to go and I thought that worked well too when Welbeck came in behind (Daniel) Sturridge.

"I thought that got us going as well and in the end with a little bit of luck we would have aggravated the score. The important thing was the victory."
