England coach Roy Hodgson has risked a row with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Hodgson's decision to put Phil Jones into the England Under-21s has caused bemusement at the player's club, Manchester United, while the talented 20-year-old himself is understood to be disappointed, says the Telegraph.
A club-versus-country dispute could materialise if Jones, a squad member at Euro 2012, is selected for this summer's Uefa Under-21 Championship.
Hodgson wants Stuart Pearce, the under-21s' coach, to have a strong squad when heading off to Israel in June.
