Former Manchester United defender Danny Higginbotham has jumped to the defence of QPR veteran Rio Ferdinand.
Higginbotham has hit out at the critics of the outspoken former United defender.
He told The Sentinel: "I can't stand people who are giving him stick and even enjoying his early struggles at QPR because I think he deserves enormous credit for taking the step down from United.
"He certainly doesn't need the money and he has plenty of outside interests, so he could easily have retired on his fantastic United record and just spread his medals across the table.
"Instead, he has gone for the challenge of keeping QPR in the Premier League and what a tremendous achievement that will be if he succeeds."
