Hibs striker Nish says ref provoked dismissal

Hibs ace Colin Nish claims the dissent which saw him sent off in Saturday's defeat to Aberdeen was provoked by a "cheeky" comment from ref Stuart Dougal.

Substitute Nish had only been on the pitch for 8 minutes when the referee awarded him a straight red card for back-chat.

"The referee has given a foul for something that was never a foul and then has said something cheeky to me," said the 27-year-old striker.

"I said something back to him and he's shown me a red card! I think that's just what he's like, though. I didn't even lose my temper and it felt like he was looking to send me off and I've walked into the trap. Nine times out of ten referees will just have a laugh with you but not this time."

However, boss Mixu Paatelainen is unlikely to be sympathetic with the striker whose back-chat left the Edinburgh side with only nine players after Thierry Gatheussi's earlier red card, also for dissent.

"If you talk to the referee and call him names there are no excuses, our players should know better than that and it is disappointing," moaned Paatelainen.
