Hibs response in Edinburgh derby thrills Butcher

Terry Butcher was quick to praise his Hibernian side after they got the better of Heart of Midlothian 2-1 in the Edinburgh derby on Thursday.

A late Liam Craig penalty won it for the Hibees at Easter Road after Hearts' David Smith had cancelled out James Collins' hour-mark opener and the manner of which they battled really resonated well with winning manager Butcher.

"It feels terrific," said the Englishman. "It is a lovely feeling because the club, the players and fans have suffered a lot this season from Hearts.

"Tonight was all about winning the match.

"I was delighted with the reaction of the players when they did concede the goal.

"In the past maybe Hearts would have got a point or won the game but we dominated again and I think we deserved to win the game."

The victory pushed Hibs up to sixth on the Scottish Premier League table as hapless Hearts remained rooted to the foot.
