Hibernian are hoping to bring in Republic of Ireland striker Adam Rooney from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The 22-year old has attracted plenty of attention from Hibs boss Colin Calderwood who is desperate to add depth to his squad in January by bringing in a quality goalscorer.
Rooney is out of contract at the end of the season leaving him free to talk to other clubs but Calderwood will have to move quickly as Russian outfit Kuban Krasnodar, Swiss club Young Boys and a handful of English clubs are keen on his services.
Inverness assistant Maurice Malpas said he hoped Rooney would remain at Caledonian Stadium, at least until the end of the season.
"We're just trying to convince him to stay here until the summer - and then make his decision whatever that may be," he said.
