Hibernian blow as Heffernan ruled out for six weeks

Hibernian have been dealt a major blow with news that striker Paul Heffernan could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

The 31-year old former Doncaster Rovers and Kilmarnock ace, who has scored three goals in 10 Scottish Premier League outings this season, sustained a thigh injury in the weekend's 0-0 draw with St Mirren and will now spend some time recovering according to Hibs boss Terry Butcher.

"Paul had a scan last night (Monday) and we're awaiting the report from that," he told the club's official website.

"But we probably think he'll be out for somewhere between three to six weeks. It was a bit of a hammer blow coming so early into the match - just five minutes into the game at St Mirren.

"So it's unlucky for Paul, but it gives James Collins a great chance to get into the team. When one door closes, another one opens."
