Hernia operation forces Sunderland's Vaughan to sidelines

A second hernia operation of the summer will force David Vaughan out of the start of the Premier League season with Sunderland.

The Welsh midfielder has had to go under the knife for the second time since the end of the last campaign and will now be out for a few weeks according to Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill.

"David has been in for another hernia operation and we are hoping that will only keep him out for a couple of weeks," he told The Chronicle.
