Herd determined to stay in Villa first team

Chris Herd is hoping to keep his spot in the Aston Villa first team after starting the past two Premier League matches.

The 22-year old Australian played a full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Sunderland on Saturday and put in a solid display despite a tumultuous week leading up to it.

The weekend prior to the Black Cats fixture, Herd was red-carded in the loss to West Bromwich Albion with that sanction later rescinded and now he has got his chance to impress Villa boss Alex McLeish, he hopes to remain in his plans.

"It was a hectic week," Herd told the club's official website. "There was the red card on Saturday, appealing it Monday and then finding out Tuesday that it had been rescinded.

"I was really pleased with that but still disappointed that we couldn't get the three points back.

"But you must always look forward and it definitely gave me a boost to get picked by the gaffer again. I want to work hard and stay in the team."
