Dick Advocaat's future with Sunderland will be decided by her indoors.

The 67-year-old Dutchman promised his wife that he would retire when he finished his emergency stint at the Stadium of Light after he answered Ellis Short's SOS.

However, a Sunderland source told the People: "Dick really fancies another season with us and he goes off on Monday to try and persuade his missus to let him have it."

A Black Cats wag said: "I hope Dick's wife realises that it is easier to get from Sunderland to Amsterdam and The Hague these days from Newcastle airport than it is to drive to Darlington because of the traffic."
