Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman has been linked with Manchester City - by his own technical chief!

After victory over Willem II yesterday, with Veerman impressive on the day, Heerenveen director Gerry Hamstra was asked about their young midfielder, who has been linked with a move away.

“There are several football players who are being asked about, but Joey shows every week that he is growing and developing. Anyway, we have not extended his contract for nothing. He is still here for four years," said Hamstra.

He also was asked whether Veerman is now too expensive for interested clubs.

"Depends on what Manchester City will offer," said the sports director jokingly. "We would like to keep him and keep this squad together."
