Roy Beerens claims he turned down offers from Wigan and ChampionshipNottingham Forest in favour of a move to AZ Alkmaar. The 23-year-old Heerenveen winger is poised to join AZ on a four-year deal worth 1.6million euros after undergoing a medical on Monday, according to reports in the Dutch media.
"There was concrete interest from Standard Liege, Wigan, Nottingham Forest and FC Twente," he told De Telegraaf.
"But AZ was my first choice from the beginning."
He added: "The team operates in the opposition's half and takes initiative. The transfer is a step up and the game suits me. You do not know how delighted I am."
