Csaba Laszlo turned down lucrative coaching posts in Saudi Arabia and Japan before taking charge at Hearts. He told Hearts' website: "I was in Uganda and I had an offer from a Saudi Arabian club.
"But I wouldn't like to tell how much money I was offered for a half-year contract. Sometimes it's not always about money."
Laszlo, who said he also had an "interesting" offer from Japan, said it had been his dream to return to Europe.
"If I have success, I can always go to Saudi Arabia or similar countries," he said.
"I would like to stay a long time here - in Scotland and the UK - and maybe achieve more.
"I am 44 and life has given me the chance to come to Scotland - that's great."
