Despite chronic knee injury problems, Steve Cherundolo is remaining positive about his chances of competing at a fourth straight World Cup.
The 34-year old right-back has not played for the USA since a friendly with Guatemala in October 2012 and is yet to feature at club level for the Bundesliga side in 2013/14.
Cherundolo, who has made the US squad for the 2002 (South Korea/Japan), 2006 (Germany) and 2010 (South Africa) tournaments, knows he has a lot of work to do to return to consistent form at club level but has set himself a challenge to push for selection for Juergen Klinsmann's roster for Brazil 2014.
"That's obviously a goal of mine," he said in an interview with ESPN.
"If Juergen thinks that I can make the team better, then nothing would make me happier than joining the team. It's an honor to play for your country. And something that I enjoy on a personal and professional level."
Cherundolo, who has been with Hannover since 1999, added: "This business and this game moves quickly and one is only as good as his last game.
"I believe my last game for the US team was a long time ago, which obviously makes things more difficult. The team has evolved without me and it is now up to me to work hard and make sure I find my place back in the team."
