Hannover 96 captain Steve Cherundolo has undergone surgery on his knee which is likely to keep him out of action for a little while longer.
The 33-year old American defender had an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee on Wednesday and will now be sidelined for two to three weeks according to club officials.
US right-back Cherundolo, who has made over 350 appearances for the club, last played for Hannover on December 19 in the German Cup but his knee problem has kept him off the pitch since.
Cherundolo will now miss Hannover's Europa League Round of 32 first leg with Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia on February 14 and the second leg the following week in Germany.
