Guardiola resisting Brentford, Swansea interest in Man City whizkid McAtee

Manchester City are very keen for James McAtee to stay at the club this summer.

The talented midfielder is on the fringes of the first team under manager Pep Guardiola.

According to the Daily Mail, City have a lot of faith in his potential, as some have compared him to club legend David Silva in play-style.

He netted a hat-trick for City's Under-23s against Manchester United's youngsters on Saturday.

Brentford and Swansea City want to sign McAtee, but City may choose to give the stylish playmaker first team chances between now and January.

"Liam Delap, Cole Palmer, James McAtee, Luke Mbete, Romeo Lavia. There are five or six guys who will be with us," said Guardiola.

"The same process we have done with Tommy Doyle.

"It's like Phil [Foden], when he arrived with us. (He) trained with us and played with the second team. It is the best way to help with their development.

"The problem with academies is the distance between their competition and the Premier League. It is too big. And it's really difficult to promote them from here.

"That is why the best way for players we think have potential, is for them to be with us."
