Marko Grujic is hoping to return to Liverpool at some point in his career.
Grujic has been at the Reds since 2016, but he has spent the past few seasons on loan at Red Star Belgrade, Hertha Berlin and Cardiff City.
After re-joining Hertha again on loan for this season, the Serb wants a permanent future at the Anfield club.
Speaking to Bild, Grujic said: "My contract at Liverpool runs until 2023. We [he and Klopp] both saw it in a similar way: I only managed to make the most of 50 per cent of my opportunities in Berlin. Minor injuries knocked me back.
"It's another reason why I didn't want to leave. I have unfinished business at Hertha. He also found that it is better for my development to stay in the Bundesliga for another year.
"I always realise that I belong to such a big club and it's where I want to be. If I play 34 very good games for Hertha, the chance to be a true Liverpool player next year is great."
