Griffiths to leave Drogba, Anelka to link up with Del Piero at Sydney

Joel Griffiths will leave Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua to join Sydney FC next month.

The 33-year old strikers contract with Shenhua expires at the end of 2012 and he will then move back home to take up a two-year deal with the Sky Blues.

The former Newcastle Jets star, who took out the A-League Golden Boot and Johnny Warren Medal in 2008, is thrilled to return to his hometown club after a couple of years in Japan and China.

"I'm really happy to be joining Sydney FC and can't wait to get into training with the team and then start playing games," Griffiths said.

"Sydney is my home, Sydney FC is a great club and has tremendous training facilities and I'm looking forward to playing in the A-League again."

Griffiths has been playing alongside former Chelsea stars Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka at Shanghai and will now team up with Juventus idol Alessandro Del Piero in a Sky Blues shirt.
