Jermain Defoe moved to within one goal of Martin Chivers' European record as Tottenham beat Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia on Thursday night.
Defoe made it 21 goals in 33 appearances in European competition to sit a goal behind Chivers and his achievement was certainly not lost on Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
"He is a great professional, has a great attitude and now he's only one off Martin Chivers so it's a real great achievement for him," said AVB.
"I think he has the ambition this season to go even further up the ladder in this record tally behind Martin Chivers and as an all-time goalscorer so I think that plays highly in his motivation, definitely."
Defoe scored the opening goal in the 34th minute before Nacer Chadli added five minutes later as Spurs made it two wins from two outings in Group K of the Europa League.
