Germany striker Mario Gomez admitted he was delighted to see Fernando Torres score twice for Spain last night.

The Chelsea forward managed a double in the reigning World champions' 4-0 win over Republic of Ireland at Euro2012 and Bayern Munich ace Gomez was thrilled that his counterpart was able to hit some form after a rough patch.

"Torres had the same problems as me," said Gomez who has also experienced a barren scoring run in the past.

"So I was very happy that he scored twice after a very hard season with Chelsea."
