Gold Coast United youngster Hare on trial at Huddersfield Town

Gold Coast United youth team member Calum Hare is on trial with English League One club Huddersfield Town.

The 20-year old central midfielder, who is also playing with the Brisbane Strikers in the Queensland State League, played 45 minutes of the Terriers' 5-0 friendly win over AFC Emley on Friday and will now train with the club this week and take part in another couple of trial matches.

Huddersfield boss Lee Clark, who had Australian Dean Heffernan in his squad last season, explained how first team coach Derek Fazackerley came about bringing Hare to Galpharm Stadium.

"Derek has particularly strong contacts in Australia, and they threw up Calum's name," Clark told the Huddersfield Examiner.

"We thought it worth taking a good look, and pre-season is an ideal time to do that, because the number of friendlies provides plenty of chance to make an assessment."

Joining Hare on trial at Huddersfield, is John Rooney, younger brother of Manchester United and England striker Wayne.
