Gold Coast United's Bleiberg blasts 'physical' Melbourne Victory

Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg has blasted the tactics employed by the Melbourne Victory in yesterday's clash at AAMI Park.

United were beaten 2-0 by the Victory, who were served well by Danny Allsopp with two fabulous goals, and the defeat came at a further cost with the injury to Bas van den Brink.

The Dutchman was felled by a Grant Brebner tackle in the opening few minutes of the encounter which ended his day and it was that challenge, along with a handful of others, which drew the ire from the Gold Coast boss.

"With all due to respect to Melbourne Victory, as there's no doubt they deserved the win, I think their game is bordering between physicality and dirtiness," Bleiberg told Fox Sports.

"They stretch it as much as the referee allows them to stretch it. They kept going with it.

"The tackle on Bas van den Brink was not even in the first 120 seconds and we lost a key player for a simple tackle from someone doing it week-in week-out.

"They're experienced enough to stretch the referee's patience and I was amazed to see at the end of the game Melbourne Victory got one yellow card. You might think you played against a church team."

The loss did nothing to Gold Coast's fourth-placed position but allowed the fifth-placed Victory to get within two points and the latter team are now a chance to clinch a home final as United have to play the top three teams in the last four matches of their regular season.
