Gold Coast United expecting huge crowd on Sunday

Over 20,000 tickets have been snapped up for Gold Coast United's free entry match against the Central Coast Mariners this Sunday and United's players couldn't be more excited at the prospect of playing in front of a packed house as they look to secure three vital points against Graham Arnold's men.

With fans set to descend on Skilled Park in their droves, Dutch defensive midfielder, Bas van den Brink, says the impending support is far from a distraction and is actually helping the squad to focus on the task at hand.

"It's very exciting news to hear that so many people are coming to the game and it makes it easier for us to concentrate on what we have to do," van den Brink said.

"We want to deliver a good game and a good result for the crowd and for ourselves. Our motivation to do that couldn't be higher and as professionals that's the kind of pressure we like.

"There's been a lot of talk about Sunday in the dressing room and we are all grateful to Clive Palmer for his unbelievable generosity in doing this. It's incredibly positive and hopefully something we can build on from here.

"A big crowd lifts players and it can lift a match. It gives you extra energy and provides an edge that can really make a difference.

"Sunday's match is a very important one as we have to make sure that we stay in touch with the top two and we also want to keep the Mariners away from us, so there's an enormous amount to play for."

As well as the action on the field there will be plenty of entertainment off it on Sunday. Australian Idol finalist Casey Barnes will perform prior to the game (approx 3.30pm) and at half-time, with the precinct surrounding Skilled Park crammed full of family entertainment before the match, with face painting, speed and shoot, a jumping castle for the kids and Showbotz performing live.

With tickets going fast, supporters should secure their seats now by going to ticketek.com.au Fans should also keep their ticket stubs or e-ticket to receive a $5.00 discount on ticket purchases for Gold Coast United's next home match versus Perth Glory on Monday 3 January.
