Gold Coast United striker Shane Smeltz is aware that a great individual performance at next month's World Cup will be good for his career but admits he is not focusing on that.
The New Zealand national team star is one of a few players who holds the key to the All Whites hopes in South Africa and a good showing could see bigger clubs move for him but he says he is content in the A-League with United at the moment.
"It's obvious that if I were to make an impression in South Africa it might mean somebody taking an interest in me. That's the way football works," he said.
"But that's not my focus right now. If it happens, it happens but it won't be any sort of distraction for me.
"I am happy at Gold Coast but at a tournament like the World Cup where everybody is watching, you never know what will happen."
