Gold Coast's Smeltz kicks clear as van Dijk mounts slight challenge

Gold Coast United striker Shane Smeltz has kicked clear on top of the A-League goalscoring list. The New Zealand international again hit the back of the net, this time in United's 2-0 win over Perth Glory at Skilled Park with a lovely turn and shot from outside the area in just the fourth minute.

It was Smeltz's 15th goal in just 17 appearances this season and reaffirmed his status as the best striker in the competition.

Brisbane Roar's Dutch striker Sergio van Dijk netted his third goal for the week as his club managed a 3-2 win over Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night. Van Dijk netted twice midweek as the Roar defeated North Queensland Fury 2-0 and he has now jumped to joint second-place on the chart with the Fury's Robbie Fowler on nine goals.
