Gilberto Silva urges Arsenal to beat Newcastle to Neymar signing

Former Arsenal captain Gilberto Silva has urged his old club to go for PSG star Neymar.

The future of Neymar at PSG is clouded after clashing with local ultras.

Gilberto says the Gunners should act and offer him an escape route: "The last few weeks at PSG have been very strange for Neymar. Seeing people go to his house - I think it's wrong, fans are not allowed to go to a player's house to protest.

"This can turn into a nightmare because it's dangerous and it's not nice. I hope it doesn't happen again to him or any other player. Everyone knows what quality Neymar has, I don't need to talk about his quality."

He also told the Daily Mail: "I love the way he plays and I would love to see him at Arsenal instead of Newcastle because I love the guy as a player, but he has a lot to contribute as well. He has suffered some injury problems that have made life difficult for him. But he has so much more to offer any football club... How would he fit in? Well, that would be a big task for Mikel (Arteta)!

"We will have to wait and see, I don't want to talk about a player who is still contracted by PSG."
