Giggs at heart of Man Utd delays over Van Gaal announcement

Manchester United face fresh delays in naming Louis van Gaal as new manager. The Daily Express says Holland coach Van Gaal was expected to be officially announced as David Moyes' successor today following yesterday's talks with Ryan Giggs, who is understood to have agreed to become his assistant.

But United insiders say some contractual details still have to be ironed out and the announcement could be put back 48 hours.

While Giggs will be Van Gaal's right hand man, United have still to resolve the futures of under 21 coach Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, who helped Giggs in his spell as interim boss following the sacking of Moyes, plus Phil Neville and Chris Woods, who were both members of Moyes' backroom staff but stayed on.

Giggs is understood to want their futures - and any severance packages - resolved before any announcement is made. And that could delay confirmation of football's worst kept secret possibly until early next week.

It is understood Van Gaal agreed two weeks ago a deal worth around £7m-a-season to take charge of United in July - after the World Cup in Brazil.
