Gerrard: That slip was lowest point of my career but Liverpool fans will remember me differently

Steven Gerrard knows very well his infamous slip last season will one day come back to haunt him.

The Liverpool captain fell at a crucial time in a clash with Chelsea last term which enabled Demba Ba to score, essentially ruining his side's Premier League title hopes.

The Reds eventually lost the premiership to Manchester City by two points in what will be Gerrard's nearest miss in his pursuit of the evasive trophy but he is confident that the club's loyal supporters will not remember him for that incident long after he leaves Anfield this summer.

"When I finish in a couple of weeks and reflect that is certainly going to be the lowest point of my career," he told Sky Sports.

"You win or lose the league over a 38-game period, but I'm not stupid and I do realise that that moment was big. But I will always take full responsibility and take it on the chin - that's what I've tried to do.

"I think over a 17-year period I have shown what I am about here and I think the fans respect me for the 17 years rather than one moment."
