Members of the German national team have blamed themselves for capitulating in their clash with Australia on Wednesday morning.
Die Mannschaft were in complete control of proceedings in Monchengladbach with a 1-0 lead as the hour-mark approached but dropped concentration and allowed the Socceroos to first level and then take the lead by the 64th minute.
First David Carney with a neat finish after a lovely Matt McKay through ball and then Luke Wilkshire from the penalty spot after Harry Kewell won a spot kick let the Socceroos back in.
The German side have acted with humility after the surprise loss saying that they only have themselves to blame.
"It was a question of attitude," admitted veteran striker Miroslav Klose.
"You can prepare very well, but then you play a bit loosely come match day and pay the price.
"That sort of thing shouldn't happen."
Defender Arne Friedrich added: "We had a lot of changes, but that is no excuse.
"We didn't pay attention for a few minutes and were punished.
"The coach can't have failed to notice what worked and what didn't, so these type of matches are necessary (to experiment)."
And striker Andre Schurrle admitted the world's third-ranked side simply threw it away.
"A lot of things didn't work, because we weren't organised enough," the Mainz man said.
"We then let in the two stupid goals and we threw the game away."
