Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino was delighted with his players after their 2-1 win against Salernitana.

Gilardino went into the game complaining about a lack of January signings.

He said afterwards: "This is a victory that weighs a lot. It weighs on the economy of the season and of this team, of these guys who always know how to amaze, know how to suffer and in moments of difficulty don't give up an inch.

"The week we experienced was paradoxical due to the number of people who left, rightly so, and due to the injuries. The boys proved to be monumental. We made little or no mistakes, Albert (Gudmundsson) and Mateo (Retegui) sacrificed a lot up front and managed to score.

"I look at reality. I think game after game. It's what I try to convey to the team regardless of who is there. Given the week, coming to Salerno and playing the match with this attitude was something extraordinary.

"Yesterday I got up a little in tone in the press room because it was right to say what I thought at this moment. The team, we, are making huge sacrifices and from a numerical point of view it is an objective consideration that we are missing some guys.

"I won't have (Martin) Frendrup and (Milan) Badelj for Lecce due to disqualification. It's It is normal that the board, as soon as it succeeds, should intervene as quickly as possible.
