Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini has fired back at Alberto Gilardino.
The striker insists Gasperini forced him out of the club following his move to China's Guangzhou Evergrande.
"His choice was more than legitimate and Gilardino had more courage than I did, as I turned down a proposal from China," said Gasperini.
"It was his choice, though, and had nothing to do with me. I stepped aside, observed what was happening and realised he was interested in the negotiation process.
"Therefore, I simply organised for a future without Gilardino."
