Two-time Golden Boot winner Shane Smeltz is already planning to end his career in the A-League.

The New Zealand international only joined Turkish club Genclerbirligi in late August but the former Wellington Phoenix and Gold Coast United marksman is confident he will return to Australia's top flight.

"I have this season and the next with Genclerberligi but nothing is ever certain in football and after that I might stay or go, who knows," he told The World Game.

"I still have a high regard for the A-League and I definitely plan to come back there one day.

"It's something I'd like to do for sure. I could stay in Europe for many years or it could just be a couple.

"I love the A-League. It was good for me and I definitely plan to return."
