Gateshead boss Gary Mills is impressed by Sunderland signing Lynden Gooch.
Gooch will miss two games for Gateshead after being called up by USA U20 for a friendly against England later this month.
Mills told the Evening Chronicle: "He told me he first came over to England when he was 10.
"That is great, it shows his character. He has come to try and make a living in the English game and play at the highest level he can.
"He has a contract at a massive club in a great area for football. It is not easy when you are his age to do that. I did it myself, I went to America for two years.
"It certainly helped me grow up. I think it turns you into a man.
"He is a lovely lad to work with but I think all this will help him."
