Gateshead boss Bogie picks up Newcastle duo

Gateshead have raided Newcastle United for two prospects.

Newcastle full-back James Tavernier and Faroe Islands international striker Joan Simun Edmundsson have joined Gateshead in the Blue Square Premier for a month.

Gateshead boss and former Toon star Ian Bogie told the club's website: "Both players are highly rated at Newcastle.

"I tried to bring in Tavernier earlier in the season but he was needed as cover for Sol Campbell and Danny Simpson while Edmundsson impressed in the two friendlies we had against United.

"He is strong and a good athlete. Both players have a bright future in the game and I am delighted to bring them to Gateshead.

"Alan Pardew is keen for his young players to go out and get experience in the professional game and we are grateful to both Newcastle and Sunderland for their assistance.

"Tavernier will come in at right back and Edmundsson, who has played up front as a lone striker for the Faroe Islands, on the left.

"After the heavy defeat at Southport we needed to freshen things up and bringing three talented players in from our two Premier League neighbours will do just that."

Pardew said recently: "It's about the younger players getting an idea of what is like playing first team football and going out and learning."
