AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has played down talk of a bid for Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien.
Galliani admits he expects Milan to continue to be active in this month's transfer market.
He said: "The transfer market? It is a time when there are thousands of phone calls and now [sporting director] Ariedo [Braida] is no longer here, everyone calls me.
"Matri? For three roles in attack we have nine players, which is too many. A striker may leave in January
"Essien? There are no negotiations for now. It is a market that I believe many players will move in, many want to change team and clubs will soon be willing to sell.
"There are also new markets, so I believe there will be movement."
