Galatasaray fans hoping for Kewell stay

Fans of Turkish Super Lig outfit Galatasaray are hoping star midfielder Harry Kewell remains with the club.

The Australian international appears to be at the end of his stay in Istanbul citing a groin injury and family issues as major factors but Gala fans want him to stay and have even gone to lengths to let their feelings be known by launching a website called staywithusharry.com.

"He is the best foreigner to play for Galatasaray since (Gheorge) Hagi," wrote one supporter at staywithusharry.com. "He is like a natural-born Galatasaray player, he suits the team very well."

Rumours persist that Galatasaray are trying to bring in Tottenham's Mexico international Giovanni dos Santos on loan which could pave the way for a Kewell exit but is remains clear that everybody wants him to stay despite his injury worries.

"Even though he will not be able to play for two months, Kewell must stay," wrote Ahmet, who did not give his last name. "My biggest dream is to watch Kewell playing for Galatasaray in our new stadium."

One fan who was more realistic about the situation but also stated that after Kewell had made such an impact at the club, it may not be too hard to bring in other quality players to cover him.

"You cannot send away a player just because he got injured, that would definitely be wrong," said Özgür Gültekin. "But if there is a chance of a recurring injury, it might be the best option to part ways with Kewell. And he has not yet agreed to an extension.

"Galatasaray has proven this season that it can attract quality players," he added. "Kewell's void will be filled without a problem."
