Philippe Senderos has been stunned by Roy Hodgson's decision to quit Fulham for Liverpool.
Former Arsenal defender Senderos arrived on a free transfer and has been looking forward to proving he is still worthy of the Premier League. But Hodgson's move to Liverpool came as a huge blow to the Swiss international as he bids to resurrect his career.
Senderos said: "Hodgson was decisive in my move. It was a clear decision in the end because he convinced me to come to Fulham.
"I have spoken to him and he is obviously now with Liverpool. I did not know that was going to happen. I was concentrating with Switzerland preparing for the World Cup and I saw in newspapers that people were talking about him leaving, but it was still a surprise.
"Of course, it is difficult to reject the call of Liverpool and that is why Roy has accepted the challenge.
"Now I have to focus on my challenge with Fulham. I am returning to London and aim to do big things."
