Gold Coast United has defeated Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League side's first of three Australian friendly encounters. Roy Hodgson's side took the lead after 16 minutes with a brilliantly taken long range freekick from captain Danny Murphy.

Gold Coast, the A-League newcomers with former PSV Eindhoven star Jason Culina in the side, looked set for its first loss until a late flurry of goals clinched a memorable 2-1 win.

Brazilian import Milson took advantage of some good lead up work from Culina and New Zealand international Shane Smeltz to level the scores in the 80th minute before Smeltz fired in the winner in the 86th minute.
