Fulham defender Sascha Riether has welcomed the manner of their victory over Aston Villa.

Riether admitted his relief after his side finally broke Villa's resistance.

"It's always important to win at home," he told fulhamfc.com. "We tried to get the goal as we wanted to win the game. At the end we had some chances and finally we got a present!

"Three points is three points and sometimes games are like that where you have to fight. We had some good chances and, at the end of the day, we scored one more goal than the other team and for us it was an important win. We have the three points so all is okay!

"Chris always fights and always gives his best for the team so for us it was very important that he was able to score."
