Martin Jol is driving Fulham's bid for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.
Jol signed the striker for Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen six years ago for £11m.
But Tottenham were then forced to sell him to Manchester United for £30m just over two years later.
Bulgaria star Berba, 31, is now out of favour at Old Trafford. He has been linked with Italians Fiorentina but Fulham hope to persuade him to stay in England and team up with his old manager.
Juventus are also keen and Berbatov flew out to Italy yesterday - but the deal is not finalised which gives Fulham boss Jol hope.
