Freedman shoulders accountability for Bolton slump

Bolton manager Dougie Freedman has taken full responsibility for his side's poor run of form this season.

The Trotters find themselves sitting 22nd on the Championship with a mediocre record of one win, two draws and six losses from their opening nine fixtures which has prompted ire from the clubs supporters.

Fans called for the heads of Freedman and chairman Phil Gartside after the 2-0 home loss to Derby County on Saturday, which has heaped further pressure on the boss, and he insist he is not shying away from being accountable for the undesirable results.

"I can't play the game of football for twenty years without taking the blame and all of a sudden be the manager and reverse that," said Freedman.

"I am fully responsible for the results - that's football management. When we win games we take the credit and when we lose games the manager takes the blame.

"I get it, I got the description when I bought into the job, there is no doubt about that - I will always take the blame that's the way I lead the team.

"I have always been support at board level since I turned up - that has never been a problem, the problem that I face is I put a lot of pressure on myself to succeed and make sure that things are done properly, so there is no one putting more pressure than myself to succeed.

"I came to this football club to succeed - you can be sure about that."

Bolton get the chance to add a second victory to their record when they travel to Craven Cottage to take on second-bottom Fulham on Wednesday night.
