Franjic commits to Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar have snapped up young right back Ivan Franjic in a deal which will keep him at the club until 2013.

The 22-year-old defender has been a revelation for the club since he joined on a short-term injury cover deal midway through August.

Following a string of impressive performances, the former Oakleigh Cannons defender attracted interest from other clubs in the Hyundai A-League but said he wanted to repay the Roar for giving him the chance to play on the national stage.

"I was happy to stay here," he said. "The Roar were the ones who gave me a shot and I wanted to be loyal and fair.

"It's a great club with great supporters and I didn't want to leave."

He said the club's exciting potential under coach Ange Postecoglou was another factor in his decision to stay on.

"I reckon this team has the potential to win Championships," he said. "There's a lot of young talent here, it's just a matter of keeping them.

"I'm feeling pretty confident. Ange is here now and he knows where he wants to go and what he wants to do so it's all positive."

Franjic said he felt he could learn a lot from Postecoglou - himself a former right back - as well as the club's experienced stars Craig Moore, Charlie Miller and Danny Tiatto.

The former Victorian Premier League player is set to take on his hometown club tomorrow night when Melbourne Victory come to Suncorp Stadium, kicking off at 6pm.
