France boss Deschamps plays down issues with West Ham ace Payet

France boss Didier Deschamps has played down issues with the attitude of West Ham United ace Dimitri Payet.

The France national coach looks set to overlook Payet for his squad for Euro2016 and he insists that it's entirely down to footballing reasons.

Reports in the past have suggested that Deschamps and Payet do not see eye-to-eye but the Les Bleus boss insist there is plenty of competition for his position which is likely to be filled by other avenues.

He said on French TV show Canal Football Club: "I've already called and I have already spoken to him about it. I said that I expected more from him than he (produced) when he was with us.

"It was not enough. In the France team, he does not do the same thing (as he does) in his club.

"He is someone who is powerful in the club. He often plays on the left in a 4-3-3. He has some very interesting statistics on the left.

"But after that there is a competition issue. In this position on the left, the competition is from Anthony Martial, Antoine Griezmann, Mathieu Valbuena, Hatem Ben Arfa or Nabil Fekir before he got injured."

Deschamps recently suggested that Payet was excluded because of his attitude problems, but he has rebuffed those suggestions now.

"Problems of attitude for Payet? No these are false problems," he added.

"As if I could not manage players ... It is a choice about football based on the other competition."
