Fowler: Man Utd won't suffer decline like Liverpool

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler doesn't expect Manchester United to disappear into the wilderness like his old club did.

Fowler was part of the club's decline in a decade when United and Sir Alex Ferguson knocked them off their perch.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: "I don't think the owners of United will ever allow the club to get into that position. This summer they will spend a fortune to try to get to a level that the club, and the fans, have become accustomed to.

"Okay, United have had a difficult season but we forget this is the same team - with Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini added to it - that walked away with the Premier League title last year.

"What does that tell you? Does it tell you that the other teams have caught up? Or does it tell you that Manchester United have dipped?

"All they need to do is spend and they have the money to do so. What happened at Liverpool in the 90s won't happen this time at Old Trafford."
