Foster backing West Brom bid for Birmingham teammate Ridgewell

Ben Foster has backed West Bromwich Albion's pursuit of Birmingham City teammate Liam Ridgewell.

Foster, on loan at the Hawthorns from St Andrew's, has angered fans of his parent club by backing the ongoing pursuit of Ridgewell in this month's transfer window.

Foster, who is set to line up against Norwich in today's FA Cup clash at home, said: "If a deal can be done, I'd be very happy to see him here.

"Liam would be a fantastic signing.

"I read an interview with the gaffer who said Liam was an 'interesting' player as he can fill two positions.

"That's exactly right, he played left-back for the majority of the season and filled in at centre-half.

"He's a great player, I get on well with him and he's someone I've kept in touch with since leaving at the end of last season.

"New faces are always welcome. It keeps the squad fresh and gives the manager options - especially with the injuries we've had.

"We had seven people training on a Thursday a few weeks ago, which is incredible."
