Marcus Hahnemann is set to make his second debut for hometown club Seattle Sounders this week.
The 40-year old former Reading, Wolves and Everton goalkeeper will start for the Sounders in their CONCACAF Champions League meeting with Honduran club Marathon on Wednesday night and cannot wait to again pull on the Seattle shirt after starting with the club back in the old NASL days in 1994.
"When you step on the field, it becomes real," said Hahnemann. "Being a sub, at least it's closer, but actually playing is I think the ultimate.
"Most of the fans would give their right arm, their first born to step on that field - I'm one of them. I never take anything for granted. Just to go out one more time it would all be worth it."
And Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid is confident that the ex-USA international will be at his best when his side looks to build on their perfect record from three Champions League outings.
"You can see his sharpness come back, which is very good," Schmid said. "His experience, his organizational abilities are very good when you put him into a scrimmage and so forth. He's coming up with big saves."
