Two West Ham United alumni have spoken out about who they would like to see step into the vacant role at Upton Park.
The relegated Hammers are now on the lookout for a new boss after Avram Grant was sacked yesterday and both Stewart Robson and Scott Minto, West Ham players in the 1980s and 90s, have put their recommendations forward on Sky Sports News.
"You look at Steve McLaren when he was at Derby and then assistant at Manchester United. I was actually speaking to him on Saturday at Wembley," Robson said.
"He is a top class coach, he is probably the best English coach we have at the moment. He's somebody that would be good at West Ham."
Minto added: "I know Steve McLaren is a big, big favourite. Martin O'Neill I think if they can try and get him, they should say 'what do you want?' but I don't see him coming to the club in the Championship.
"I look at the likes of Chris Hughton, who 's been there, Neil Warnock's situation at QPR, let's find out what's going to happen there. Also, Roberto Di Matteo, he's been in the situation before with a big club in the Championship and got them up. I still think he would have kept West Brom up, although you can look back and say it was a good decision to put Roy Hodgson in at the club and also, Gus Poyet. I was with him at the League One playoffs and just sitting with him and watching football, he's telling you things and you think, 'yes, I would love to play for you'. I think he's got that enthusiasm so it will be interesting to see if his name is in the hat as well.
"There's three or four of them and I would actually go for Roberto Di Matteo out of them all."
