Former Rangers ace Boyd excited about starting Portland Timbers career

Kris Boyd is looking forward to getting his career with Portland Timbers under way as soon as possible.

The former Rangers, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest striker - who arrived in Portland last week - has commenced pre-season training with his new club and after sitting out a recent match against San Jose Earthquakes is keen to get out on the pitch and do what he does best.

"I'll need a few training sessions before I'm ready to play, but if I can sleep past 4am I'll be happy," he said.

"The first pre-season training session was tough, but I felt as though I fitted in well. I look forward to playing as soon as I can.

"I was lucky Kilmarnock let me train with them for a couple of weeks while I waited for my visa.

"I've played with a few American lads in my career, Mo Edu and Da Marcus Beasley at Rangers and Robbie Findley at Nottingham Forest. You know what you get from them - great athleticism and attitude, and it's up to me to get to that level.

"I'm here to score goals and I can't wait to get started."
